Six Feet Under

I just finished the series "Six Feet Under" and I have to admit it was a great series. After watching episode after episode I began to become attached to each of the characters. In the beginning of the series I was a bit confused when their deceased father would appear to them or the corpse they were working on would begin to communicate with them because I wasn't sure if they were seeing ghosts. Later, I came to the conclusion that it was their conscious speaking to the characters in the form of their deceased loved one or the corpse that they were working on. One of the things I loved about the series is how each episode a person died in a different and unexpected way.I loved how I would assume that one person would die a certain way and then another person would walk by and they would be the one that would die a whole completely different way than I imagined.
Throughout the series I had mixed feelings about each character and became attached to each character, which is something that happens in every series I like or love. Claire to me was a misguided and lost little girl. I think her parents did not give her as much attention because she was the youngest and her brothers were much older. She constantly experimented with several different drugs and she slept with a lot of different guys through out the series. There were many times I disliked her because of how she would lash out at her family members and how she was extremely selfish at times. I am glad in the end it appeared that she turned her life around and pursued her dreams. Ruth, I think was also trying to find herself and find what she really wanted in life. Like her daughter, she had a small history of going from man to man, but not nearly as much as Claire. I think her relationship with George  made me feel bad for George. She completely shut him out once she found out he was sick and then moved the poor guy out of the house with the false notion that she was moving out with him, and when he decided to move on she ruined his chances by speaking to his new fiancé.  I think this is where Claire got her selfishness from because Ruth was only focused on her happiness. One thing I loved about Ruth was the awkward conversations she brought up about her kids sex lives, which always made me smile or laugh. David was probably one of my favorite characters. I loved his relationship with Keith, but i did not like when Keith would disrespect him and treat him badly. I was glad that they were able to work through their problems and I loved that in the end he got all that he wanted and more. David took great pride in his work and wanted to continue his family legacy and through all the obstacles he faced he still kept the family business running. I felt bad for him when he was forced to smoke crack and almost killed by someone he thought he was helping. That one night severely messed him up. Nate, I did not like his relationship with Brenda and honestly don't think Nate could have ever fully stay committed to anyone. His wife was missing for days and he slept with one of his customers, which was pretty disrespectful and disgusting. A good thing about Nate was he was never focused on money, but concerned about providing an affordable service. I was extremely sad when he died. It was so unexpected and extremely sad. Frederico was extremely talented and put a lot of care in his work. I don't think they ever fully treated him like a partner and he did need to move on to his own business. I thought he was extremely dumb for not realizing that chick Sophia was using him for his money and I was extremely glad when his wife took a bat to her car. I was silently cheering her on. The last Character I would like to discuss is Brenda. I think she was toxic and she had an unhealthy relationship with her brother. Brenda was mad at Maggie for sleeping with Nate while she was married to him, but she did the same thing to Lisa when Nate was married to her. I did feel bad for her when Nate pretty much dumped her and he died shortly after. That would be something that would haunt me for the rest of my life. I didn't like Nate for that, especially because she was pregnant.
I loved the series finale because it tied up a lot of loose ends. The scene where they are all telling old stories of Nate and they all toasted to him made me tear up. I loved how when Claire went on her journey to New York and as she drove down the rode they flashed through their lives and showed milestones in their lives and also each of their deaths. It was excellently executed and a great ending to a great series! Please feel free to comment. I'm interested in hearing different views or opinions on the show. Since I wrote the blog after the completing series I didn't get to breakdown each season, but next series I watch I will try to discuss each season.
